Dariven

Dariven are a race of riven and result from abandoned riven being raised by other species. Aside from upbringing and the benefits of a better life, they are physically no different. Hear it pronounced.

Traits

Dariven are found almost exclusively in joint settlements, or those dominated by karelia or kryll. They face considerable racism because they’re still riven and considered a danger to others both in attitude and disease.

Dariven are most often the result of riven mothers abandoning the babies, intentionally or not, in the wilderness and someone else coming across them and rescuing them. The riven is raised among another species. Dariven are in noticeably better health than riven and usually don’t have as many deformities. They try to be immaculate.

Dariven are smarter and wiser than riven due to patience and self-restraint. Dariven are stronger than riven due to better nourishment. Better living has given dariven a stronger constitution. They are less prone to sickness. Offspring of other dariven are among the strongest.

Appearance

Dariven are physically identical to riven except that their overall health is magnitudes better. They were given the nickname “white riven” due to their tendency to dress in white, which was adopted to show their cleanliness to others.

Habitat

Dariven live in the city where they were raised. They often live in another person’s home, such as a room in a castle or manor. One reason is that they’re orphans and must be taken in by someone with the resources to feed another mouth.

Magic

Dariven rarely becomes wizards but stand more chance of this than riven, certainly. They have better self-control and discipline, and access to teachers and spell books, which they also know how to read. Sorcerers are still more likely, but since the overall dariven population is small, these are still not common.

Gods

All species acknowledge Llurien’s twenty-eight gods. Being riven, dariven have the same tendencies as riven but have learned to overcome this to varying degrees of success.

Blaekynor, Goddess of Haste, Chaos, Misfortune, Impatience, Accidents, Mischief, Patron of Fools

Dariven struggle to overcome their hasty movements and are still prone to making mistakes. They’ve noted that if they run, an exultation comes over them and they begin to lose control. Their impatience still gets the better of them quite often.

Mooryndal, God of Hate, Contempt, Murder, Revenge, Vengeance, Tyranny, Patron of Killers

Dariven spend time meditating to mitigate their tendency toward hate. They try to avoid human interaction because humans are more unpredictable and this unsettles dariven, which makes them lose control of themselves. Humans are also suspicious of them and can try to antagonize them.

Ilioth, God of Cynicism, Disease, Sickness, Doom, and Poison, Parton of ??

Being optimistic is difficult for dariven, but this is one reason they often become religious, learning to have faith in not only gods but other people and that situations will turn out for the best.

Raekynlor, God of Sloth, Passiveness, Silence, Irresponsibility, Indecision, Procrastination, Indifference, Boredom, Cold, Winter, Patron of ??

Raekynlor’s influence is the hardest one for dariven to ignore because they must expend effort to overcome their shortcomings. Not only does Raekynlor make them too lazy for this, but indifferent, passive, and irresponsible.

Ideology

Dariven integrate into joint societies or those of karelia or kryll. They adopt the laws and etiquette of their host settlement and do their best to fit in, knowing that failure to do so may result in ejection and a reversion to their natural state. In some cases, it causes imprisonment, and rarely, execution. Unlike riven, dariven learn to speak and write Antarian fluently, along with speaking standard phrases of other languages like querran, morkais, kryllan, or karelian. Some even learn the finger language of mandeans.

Combat

Dariven know nothing of combat. They’re afraid that their compulsions will override them if they get involved in such things. They therefore don’t learn weapons and exemplify peaceful living. Some think this means they won’t defend themselves, but this isn’t true.
